Vancouver music shop closes original location after more than 40 years

They opened up a second location in 2019, and that's their new home.

Since 1984, a bright yellow sign has declared 2621 Alma St. to be home to Rufus' Guitar Shop.

And while the signs are still there, the shop isn't.

But it's not the end for Rufus'.

"We have made the difficult decision to close down our Alma Street location," says owner Blaine McNamee in a video on Facebook. "After 40 great years in the west side, we've decided to move everything to Commercial."

In 2019, Rufus' Guitar Shop opened a second store at 1803 Commercial Dr.

"You can now come see us at Commercial Drive," says McNamee in the video. "We have all our inventory at Commercial. We are doing lessons out of Commercial. All the repairs will be going out of Commercial."

The Rufus Drum Store, which opened in 2015 on West 10th Avenue, closed its retail operations in 2024 but continued as a place for music lessons.

Vancouver Is Awesome reached out Rufus' Guitar Shop for more details but did not receive a response.
