If I have one regret in the last eight years of writing Pass it to Bulis, it’s that Harrison and I didn’t do more musical parodies about the Sedins. Regrettably, our lone music video about the Sedins, a parody of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” entitled “Sedinery,” appears to have disappeared from the internet.
That just won’t do. With the Sedins retiring, they deserve a proper musical send-off, something that truly captures the depth of sadness and simultaneous joy that Vancouver feels right now towards the Sedins. A musical masterpiece that pays tribute to their amazing play on the ice and inspiring character off the ice.
I couldn’t manage that, so I did a parody of R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion” instead.
It is titled “Losing the Sedin Twins" and I hope you enjoy it or that it in some way captures some of the emotions you might be going through with the Sedins departing the NHL.
I borrowed some crying Canucks fans at the end from the classic “S**t Canucks fans say” video. Remember that meme? That was a good one. Better times.
Here are the lyrics:
Losing the Sedin Twins
The ice looked bigger
Bigger when twenty-two and thirty-three
Got their passes through to
Create room on the ice
Daniel, the scoring touch
Henrik set it up
The city of Vancouver
This is Canucks fans
Losing the Sedin twins
Trying to say goodbye
And I don't know if I can do it
Some say they passed too much
They didn’t pass enough
Did Burke know who he was drafting?
When he said Daniel and Henrik Sedin
From the Swedish Elite League
Every winger
Every single linemate
Seemed to have a career season
When they lined up with you
Then Alexandre Burrows, oh
He came through in the clutch
Who knew he was enough?
Consider this
They’re the best twins in a century
Consider this
The twins made hockey history
I’m assailed by all of these memories
They’re sailing around
Now I've said too much
We thought you would play forever
We thought this day would never come
I think we thought you’d never retire
But that was just a dream
That was just a dream
Cycled in the corner
Then stepped into the spotlight
Wizardous Sedin twins
League tried to keep up with you
And you know they couldn’t do it
Back-to-back Art Ross wins
One each ‘cuz you’re twins
I know that you heard them chanting
I know that you heard them sing
The fans were saying "one more year"
But that is just a dream, cry, cry, cry, cry
That is just a dream, just a dream, just a dream
Dream
