Stick in Link: Happy Valentine's Day; Ben Hutton is looking for love

Also, Pat Quinn gets a statue, Brendan Gaunce gets recalled, and trade deadline ruminations.

It’s time for “Stick in Link”, the feature where we just plug in a bunch of stuff written by others! Featuring a smattering of links from around the Smylosphere and beyond every Tuesday and Thursdayish. Warning: our links are so hyper, they change colour when exposed to heat. (Have something for us to share in the next edition? E-mail us at [email protected] or tweet us @passittobulis. Or tell us some other way. The point is: we'll probably link it if we know about it.)

  • The Canucks plan to unveil a life-sized Pat Quinn statue outside Rogers Arena on February 18th. Rob Williams has the scoop. [Daily Hive]
  • Valentine’s Day is a terrible time to talk about breakups, but that’s where we’re at: the Canucks are likely to be saying, “It’s not you, it’s me,” to both Alex Burrows and Jannik Hansen. Burrows seems to be taking it all in stride, but the Honey Badger, unsurprisingly, is a little grumpy about the whole thing: “If he comes to me, I’ll give him eight teams. But I’ve made it very clear I’d prefer to stay here.” [The Province]
  • This is my favourite part of the above article, as Burrows says he needs a safe space from anything that might mention the NHL where his name might be mentioned in trade talks. So he watches ESPN. Way to go, Gary Bettman, way to get the NHL on the biggest sports channel in the US.

  • With Bo Horvat injured, albeit with a bruise rather than a fracture, Brendan Gaunce got recalled from Utica and will play against the Penguins. He scored 2 goals and 3 points in 4 games with the Comets. [Hockey Buzz
  • Whoever had the bright idea to interview Ben Hutton about Valentine’s Day deserves a raise. “I usually don’t like to kiss on the first night,” says Hutton. “Classy guy, classy guy,” says Sbisa, who definitely kisses on the first date. Highlight of the interview: when Sbisa asks Hutton who would be the most likely guy to write a romantic letter and Hutton laughs, says “Luca Sbisa,” then proceeds to talk about Sbisa like he’s not even there.

  • Canucks Army gets in on the Valentine’s Day fun with a set of Valentine’s Day cards that are sure to woo the Canucks fan in your life, assuming the Canucks fan in your life likes puns and dad jokes. [Canucks Army
  • Brandon Sutter is so dreamy. It makes perfect sense that his birthday is on Valentine’s Day. Love this illustration from Derek Toye.

  • GMs around the NHL are reporting that the upcoming expansion draft for the Las Vegas Golden Knights is cooling trade talk heading into the trade deadline. Just in case any GMs need another excuse for not getting a deal done. [The Athletic]
  • Jonathan Willis thinks the Canucks should trade the Sedins and he’s really, really wrong. [Puck Daddy]
  • Cam Lewis takes a look at each team in the Pacific Division heading into the trade deadline. His view on the Canucks: they’re not deep enough to be a playoff team, but they’ll get close enough that guys like Burrows, Hansen, and Miller won’t be moved. [Canucks Army
  • Canucks Army’s Jeremy Davis hit TSN 1040 with something I think we all understand: Ryan Miller plays best when you limit his starts. The difference is Jeremy has the analytics to back up his opinion. [TSN 1040
