Public health orders restricting all gatherings beyond one’s household members are being extended until Feb. 5, after an uptick in COVID-19 cases in B.C..
“In the last days, we have seen a slight increase in our cases,” provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said Thursday. “And our curve is trending upward.
“As a result, our current provincial health officer orders on all gatherings and events have been extended through to Feb. 5, 2021, at midnight,” said Henry. The restrictions were to expire on Friday.
This means that the same requirements that have been in place, including restrictions on social gatherings and people holding all events, whether in public or private venues, and restrictions on sports activities continue to apply, said Henry.
Twenty-three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Island Health on Thursday, one day after a record high 28 cases were announced Wednesday.
A total of 761 new positive test results were reported in B.C. on Thursday. There are now 6,349 active cases in the province, and 8,849 people being monitored for the virus.
Of those infected, 372 are in hospital, including 74 in intensive or critical care. On the Island, eight are in hospital, with two in intensive care. Another eight people have died, none in Island Health.
