There are now 137,810 cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C. after health officials announced 587 new cases Thursday.
One of the new cases is epi-linked.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports that there have been 126 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 365 in the Fraser Health region, 21 in the Island Health region, 60 in the Interior Health region, 15 in the Northern Health Region and no new cases in people who reside outside of Canada.
There is no update on the variants of concern in the province.
There have been five new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 1,632 deaths in British Columbia.
There are 5,691 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
Of the active cases, 413 individuals are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 141 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.
2,335,525 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C.; 119,691 of those are second doses.
There has been a second case of Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT) in B.C. in a man in his 40s from the AstraZeneca vaccine. He is receiving treatment and is stable.
