Employees from two major grocery and drug store chains operating across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley have been confirmed as having coronavirus (COVID-19).
Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart, updated its COVID-19 employee case tracker May 5 and 6 to indicate the following affected stores in B.C.:
- Real Canadian Superstore, #1105 Eaton Ctr. 4700 Kingsway, Burnaby: The last day the team member worked was on April 27.
- Shoppers Drug Mart, 3025 Lougheed Highway, Coquitlam: The last day the team member worked was on May 2.
- Real Canadian Superstore, 32136 Lougheed Highway, Mission: The last day any of the three infected team members worked was on April 23, 25 and 29.
Currently there are 15 B.C. Loblaw-owned stores with active employee COVID-19 cases; of those, 14 are located within either the Vancouver Coastal Health or Fraser Health region.
None of the stores, however, is considered a coronavirus public exposure location, and none have been closed down by either the health authority or WorkSafeBC.
While T&T Supermarket is owned by Loblaw, the Canadian Asian grocery chain lists its COVID-19 cases separately on its own site and has had no employee at work in the last two weeks who has since tested positive for the virus.
