Nearly a dozen Metro Vancouver grocery stores are reporting new worker coronavirus (COVID-19) cases. Chains like Real Canadian Superstore and Safeway, with locations in Vancouver, Burnaby, and across the Fraser Valley, have seen new store employee cases posted in the last couple of days.
Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, and other local chains, provided updates to its COVID-19 employee case listings on April 11 and 12 indicating cases at the following store locations in the Metro Vancouver region:
- Real Canadian Superstore, 4700 Kingsway #1105, Burnaby: The last day the team member worked was on April 7
- Real Canadian Superstore, 2332 160th Street, Surrey: The last day the team member worked was on April 5
- Dennis' No Frills Coquitlam, 100 - 1960 Como Lake Ave., Coquitlam: The last day the team members worked was on April 1 and 3
- Real Canadian Superstore, 350 S.E. Marine Drive, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on April 7
- Deepu's No Frills Surrey, 108 - 12852 - 96 Avenue, Surrey: The last day the team members worked was on March 31 and April 8
- Real Canadian Superstore, 3185 Grandview Highway, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on April 7
- Real Canadian Superstore, 19800 Lougheed Hwy, Pitt Meadows: The last day the team members worked was on April 4 and 5
While T&T Supermarket is owned by Loblaw, the Canadian Asian grocery chain lists its COVID-19 cases separately on its own site. However, since reporting cases affecting two part-time workers in West Vancouver and Surrey stores last week, the company has not had any new cases to report.
Sobeys, Inc, the parent company of Safeway, Thrifty Foods, and franchisor of discount grocery chain FreshCo, indicated in recent days on its case tracker that employees working at three of its Metro Vancouver Safeway stores have tested positive for the virus. The affected stores are as follows:
- Safeway - 4440 Hastings Street, Burnaby: The last day the employee worked was on April 5
- Safeway - 12825 16th Avenue, Surrey: The last day the employee worked was on April 3
- Safeway - 2315 West 4 Avenue, Vancouver: The last day the employee worked was on April 7
None of the above-listed grocery stores are considered coronavirus public exposure sites by Fraser Health or Vancouver Coastal Health.
Loblaw, T&T Supermarket, and Sobeys, Inc. remain the only major grocery operators in B.C. to list store worker COVID-19 cases on a public portal. Other major brands, like McDonald's Canada and Lowe's also opt to share news of employee coronavirus infections publicly on online platforms.
