Employees at Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Vancouver and Surrey have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Shoppers Drug Mart provided the update to its COVID-19 employee case listings on Dec. 3.
The following stores are affected:
- Shoppers Drug Mart, 370 East Broadway (Kingsgate Mall), Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on November 30.
- Shoppers Drug Mart, 8962 152nd Street, Surrey: The last day the team member worked was on November 30.
Neither store location is considered a coronavirus public exposure site by Vancouver Coastal Health or Fraser Health.
Loblaw says they share updates about test-positive COVID cases in their stores in order to maintain transparency.
"In these cases, we work closely with public health and follow their guidance to ensure proper notification of close contacts and required cleaning and sanitization in our stores," notes the company.
When there are employee virus cases, Loblaw notes: “Generally, the risk to our customers remains low, due to the physical distancing and sanitization measures that have been in place in our stores for months."
T & T Supermarket Coquitlam temporarily closed due to COVID cases
Earlier this week, T & T Supermarket, which is owned by Loblaw, announced the temporary closure of its Coquitlam store on Barnet Hwy.
The store will remain closed until Saturday, Dec. 5.
"The virus situation at [the] Coquitlam store is unsettling," said T & T CEO Tina Lee, "so we are determined to stamp it out."
Lee continued: "It's time for our Coquitlam store staff to take a break, and for the company to take even stronger measures."
T & T will conduct a deep cleaning and sanitization before re-opening. The closure will allow staff to be tested if needed, and for the store to be cleaned.
