The BC Centre for Disease Control released some updated maps that show where the highest number of COVID-19 cases are located across the province.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry spoke about the updated maps during B.C.'s daily COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, Nov. 12. She noted that the latest restrictions reflected the uptick in cases, and cautioned that the province may see the total number of daily new cases double if people do not change their behaviour.
According to the modelling, B.C. is on track to see over 1,000 cases of the virus daily if locals do not follow the latest health order.
So far, the Fraser Health region continues to see the highest number of new cases daily. And while Henry noted that it is the province's most populous region, she added that the rise in cases warrants concern.
"And right now, a lot of the focus on transmission in our communities, particularly in the Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health region, is because of our social interactions," said Henry.
"Whether it's in the community, or at our home, and we don't put in place those same measures in our home to keep us safe, that we do in other settings."

The BCCDC shared a map of the province's cumulative number of reported COVID-19 cases between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31, 2020.
Photo: BC Centre for Disease Control The City of Surrey has seen the province's highest number of cases since the start of the pandemic, with 3,993 cases. However, the City of Vancouver is a close second. While it is broken into a number of regions, the total number of cases adds up to 3,444.
In the City of Vancouver, Downtown Vancouver has seen the highest number of cases, with 857.
Abbotsford follows the City of Vancouver, with 880 cases, while Burnaby has 857. The Tri-Cities area has 783 cases.
While the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal health regions have seen the highest COVID-19 numbers, the map shows a few other areas with high numbers for their respective populations. The darker regions of the map show areas with 200 or more positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people.
B.C. isn't likely to see spring's COVID-19 lockdown restrictions again
Despite announcing record-breaking daily numbers in B.C.'s COVID-19 updates, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says B.C. won't return to its former spring restrictions.
Today, B.C.'s top doctor announced 1,959 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the province, setting a new record high. However, she told reporters that several lessons since the early stages of the pandemic have been successfully applied in various sectors.
"The difference between what we were thinking about in April and what we know now, are we know that there are many things that can continue to happen safely,
said Henry. "We know we can safely go to schools. We haven't had outbreaks related to restaurants--when the rules are followed."
