Vancouver Coastal Health has added a Vancouver boxing gym to its list of businesses closed due to coronavirus (COVID-19) cases at the location.

EastSide Boxing Club, a non-profit gym located in Chinatown, was shut down Friday, April 16 by the authorities.

"The closure will generally be for 10 days, or as otherwise determined by the Medical Health Officer, to prevent further transmission of COVID-19 and to allow time to update and approve the worksite COVID-19 safety plan," explains Vancouver Coastal Health.

EastSide Boxing has not shared details about the closure on its website or social media channels.

The gym had been open for one-on-one classes, however, group fitness instruction is suspended under current provincial health orders.

On April 8, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that when three or more people in a workplace have COVID-19, with likely transmission in the workplace, the workplace will be ordered to close unless it is in the overriding public interest to keep it open.

As part of the new closure and reporting system, each of B.C.'s five regional health authorities is required to post such workplace closures online. VCH posts its updates Monday to Friday on its website and removes listings once the venue is re-opened.

In addition to EastSide Boxing Club, there are seven businesses in the VCH region that have been shut down due to COVID-19 cases. Those places are: Cactus Club Café in West Vancouver; Old Spaghetti Factory in Whistler; Wish Dry Bar in West Vancouver; Awesome Food + Spa in Vancouver; Coast Restaurant in Vancouver; Hydra Restaurant in Vancouver; and Thierry Mount Pleasant in Vancouver.
