Employees at two grocery stores operating in Vancouver have recently tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Real Canadian Superstore and the No Frills chain provided updates to its COVID-19 employee case listings on Jan. 4.
The affected stores are as follows:
- Real Canadian Superstore, 350 S.E. Marine Drive, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 30.
- Alfie's NOFRILLS, 1688 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver: The last day each of the two COVID-19 positive team members worked was on Dec. 30 and 31.
Neither of the store locations is considered public exposure sites by Vancouver Coastal Health.
Sobeys, Inc., parent company of familiar local grocery store chains Safeway, Thrifty Foods, and franchise operation FreshCo, also reports store employee COVID-19 test positive cases on its public web portal, however, the company has not posted any new B.C. store cases since late December 2020.
The other major grocery chain operating in B.C. that posts store employee COVID-19 test positive cases on a public website is T & T, which is owned by Loblaw. T & T has not had a test-positive case reported by any of its B.C. store employees in the last 14 days, according to the company's website.
One major retailer, Quebec-based home improvement chain RONA, posts store employee COVID-19 cases to its Facebook page.
B.C.'s COVID-19 case count to be updated Monday afternoon
Public health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix are expected to hold a media briefing Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. to update provincial COVID-19 case counts and other related information. The numbers announced today will reflect several reporting periods covering the first few days of the new year.
On Dec. 31, 690 new coronavirus cases were reported in the province, bringing B.C.'s case total to-date to 51,990.
“A new year brings a fresh start for us all, and we must start 2021 on the right foot. This year, that means following provincial health officer orders to protect your friends, family and all your communities," said Dr. Henry and Minister Dix in their written statement issued the last day of 2020.
