CITYWIDE
It's a simple concept - eat a hamburger and help send a child to camp.
White Spot restaurants across the city and Lower Mainland will be selling adult Pirate Paks (starting at $11.49) all day Wednesday, Aug. 14, with $2 from each dedicated to the Zajac Ranch for Children.
In the summer months, Zajac Ranch hosts medical camps for children living with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating conditions, including heart problems, organ transplants, visual impairments, Spina Bifida, Autism, Down Syndrome and blood disorders. The ranch, located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, is situated on 40 acres of waterfront land and forest.
The Adult Pirate Pak is sold only one-day a year so there's no time to waste if you're craving a Legendary, Bacon Cheddar, B.C. Chicken or Portobello Provolone Veggie burger. Each Adult Pirate Pak includes a burger, fries, coleslaw, a scoop of ice cream and "gold" chocolate coin served up in one of those iconic pirate ships introduced in 1968.
Since the launch of the Adult Pirate Pak, White Spot has raised more than $200,000 for Zajac Ranch, providing more than 100 children and youth the opportunity to create summertime memories and enjoy traditional camp experiences such as fishing, canoeing and kayaking, archery, swimming, climbing, art, and gold panning.

YALETOWN

Those big hats so popular at those Deighton Cup parties at Hastings Racecourse are so last week. Now hipsters will have just over two weeks to pull together a fabulous nautical-themed outfit for an upscale Hampton'sstyle Sunday brunch Aug. 25 in support of the Special Olympics.
The Port & Starboard brunch, dubbed the city's "swankiest day-time fundraiser," will include the company of "motionball celebrities" - athletes from the Special Olympics.
Motionball is a non-profit organization that builds awareness and raises funds for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation, which targets the next generation of supporters. Port & Starboard has a goal to raise $75,000 through ticket sales, donations and sponsorships for the foundation.
The brunch, hosted by the Sports Network's Cabral "Cabbie" Richards, will include a gourmet brunch and beverages, games, door prizes and music. Port & Starboard takes place Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Keg, 1011 Mainland. For more information, visit motionball.com.
