Nordost tells the story of three women involved in the Dubrovka hostage crisis of 2002.

On Oct. 22, 2002, 42 Chechen militants stormed the Dubrovka Theatre in Moscow and took the crowded room hostage. At the end of the 57-hour stand-off, 170 people had lost their lives.

Produced and performed by an all-female cast and crew, Nordost tells the harrowing story of this siege and its shocking culmination from the perspective of three very different women.
Troika Collective, the company behind last year’s sold-out Chernobyl: The Opera, presents this North American premiere of  Torsten Buchsteiner’s award-winning play.

“At a time when terrorism, rebellion, and imperial military muscle (not to mention Vladimir Putin) are once again dominating headlines,” says the press release, “Nordost invites audiences to examine contemporary issues through past events. Who are the ‘others’, known to us only through their violent acts?”

• Nordost runs March 4-7, 8pm, at Havana Theatre (1212 Commercial). Tix $20/$17 at BrownPaperTickets.com
