Vancouver-headquartered Aritizia continues its domination of the retail landscape with the opening of a Wilfred store. A Wilfred location at 1112 Robson is joining (literally, it’s right beside) the Aritizia and Aritzia Base on Robson Street, with its recent opening.
This is the first Wilfred store in Vancouver, though the much-loved line has been carried in Aritizia store for years.
Wilfred is a contemporary line that balances whimsy and luxury sophistication.
For Aritzia fans, and yes, there are many, it means more to love of their favourite retailer.
Hold the food, let’s slow down fashion
First there was slow food, now it’s slow fashion. The concept is the same: quality over quantity, promotes conscious consumption rather than frivolous overconsumption, support for smaller businesses, fair trade and locally-made clothes.
The focus is on slowing down the supply chain to reduce the number of trends and seasons and creating smaller collections. Vancouver-made Walter’s Son, a recently launched line of men’s shirts is an example of the slow fashion movement.
The line’s upcoming collection has only three styles and the focus is on soft leather detailing and premium fabrics.

Wearing her message on her sleeve
It’s hard to believe given the grey and soggy weather, but spring is coming, and with it the launch of a new Vancouver line, Nomi. Founder Jullianna Smith incorporates inspirational quotes from prominent women along with original sketches from her mother's artwork into the line.
Key pieces of the line’s spring season collection include a pink and white silk shorts and blazer, which is inscribed with hidden quotes on the sleeves and collar. Nomi was created through Smith’s personal journey of self-awareness.
The concept has become a collaborative endeavour celebrating a woman’s individuality and the acceptance of her origin.
