Bells and Whistles beer hall coming to Fraserhood, Enroute names Canada’s Best New Restaurants

Gooseneck Hospitality, the award-winning group behind Wildebeest, Bufala and Lucky Taco, is opening a new restaurant in the Fraserhood this September. Bells and Whistles will be open daily at 3296 Fraser St. for lunch, dinner and late-night drinks. The beer hall and casual-dining concept will have 150 seats inside, as well as a wrap-around and heated outdoor patio. The menu will feature burgers, tacos, salads, ballpark-inspired fare such as chili and garlic fries, and soft-serve ice cream. In addition to a rotating selection of craft and import beers, there will also be ciders, cocktails and wines, all on tap. TWG Tea has launched a Lotus Jade Tea Mooncake collection of pastries to celebrate the upcoming mid-autumn festival. The collection includes mooncake with blueberries, white lotus paste and almond-blueberry purée infused with tea, as well as the white chocolate and coconut version with Amarena cherry and brown lotus paste infused with Pu-erh. Air Canada’s Enroute magazine has announced the long-list of 30 nominees for Canada’s Best New Restaurants. Six restaurants are from B.C., including Vancouver’s Botanist, Cacao, Fayuca, and Mak n Ming, Squamish’s The Salted Vine and Malahat’s Summit. La Pentola is holding its next Famiglia Supper Series on Sunday, Aug. 27. Focusing on local tomatoes, the 10-course menu includes albacore crudo, tomato tarte, peach and heirloom tomato gazpacho, buratta with tomato and grilled plum, fried mussels, tortellini stuffed with buffalo mozzarella and basil, Humboldt squid, branzino, a surprise dessert and more. On Tuesday, Sept. 12, Chef Meets Truck returns to Yaletown. The Chefs’ Table Society of BC event (in partnership with Yaletown BIA) sees Vancouver restaurant chefs hopping aboard local food trucks to create new collaborative dishes. Participating restaurants and chefs include Kris Barnholden of Bows x Arrows, Ned Bell of Oceanwise, Derek Gray of Savio Volpe and Makoto On of Mak n Ming. Trucks include Mom’s Grilled Cheese, Roaming Dragon, Via Tevere and more. Tickets are $69 via Eventbrite and include food samples from the eight participating food trucks/chefs, as well as wine and beer samples from Cedar Creek Estate Winery and Parallel 49 Brewing.
