For many chefs and their brigades curry is the ultimate family-style staff meal, the proud product of a cook's cultural heritage.
So an annual cooking competition dedicated to curry dishes created by some of this city’s best chefs only makes sense, which is where the fifth annual Curry Cup comes in.
On March 13, join the Chefs' Table Society of B.C. and its panel of participating chefs and judges at Heritage Hall on Main Street to watch eight chefs battle it out for bragging rights and enjoy samples of wine from Evolve Cellars, beer samples from R & B Brewing, cocktails from Brown-Foreman/Jack Daniels, fresh doughnuts from Cartems Donuts — and, of course, curry.
It's the best ticket in town for an intimate, tasty and entertaining evening that also benefits Project Chef, a program dedicated to teaching young students about healthy food.
And once again, the Curry Cup will be hosted by man-about-town Fred Lee.
This year's competing chefs include:
Elizabeth Bryan, Dock Lunch
Shelome Bouvette, Chicha
Andrea Carlson, Burdock and Co.
Tim Evans, the Cascade Room
Karl Gregg, Colony on Main
Mark Hills, Hills Foods
Alana Peckham, Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver
Alessandro Vianello, Gooseneck Hospitality
This year’s judges include:
Felix Zhou, Heritage Asian Eatery — last year's winner of both the Curry Cup and People's Choice awards.
Tim Pawsey, hiredbelley.com
Vikram Vij, Vij's Restaurant
