Food courts usually dont have a reputation for anything other than convenience. But with a daytime population of 130,000 people within a kilometre of the Harbour Centre, management decided that it was worth it to shake things up a little.
They hired SSDG, the Vancouver design company that did Miku restaurant and Terminal City Club, to do a multi-million-dollar renovation.
We felt it was time to improve Harbour Centre and bring in something that changes it dynamically, says general manager Richard Lui. If we were going to reinvest, we felt we had to do it right.
The results have been worth it, with bountiful accolades pouring in from tenants, which include SFUs downtown campus, the Vancouver Lookout Observation Deck and two levels of shops and services. There are 13 food outlets, including Vancouver concept Rice N Spice and the first Canadian retail location of the popular New York-based Famous Famiglia Pizzeria.
