The premise is pretty simple: Eat poutine during La Poutine Week and go online and vote for your favourites. And this glorious event celebrating Canada’s unofficial national drunk food takes place Feb. 1-7.
Not surprisingly, La Poutine Week has its roots in Quebec, from which poutine also hails. Over the years, the festival has picked up participating Canadian cities from coast to coast, including Vancouver.
Restaurants sign up with La Poutine Week as participants with their poutine creations, and the festival gets the word out by sharing the restaurant lists for each city.
So far it looks like there are just a few spots taking part in Vancouver:
• Fable Diner
• The Rise Eatery
• The Canadian Brewhouse (Richmond)
• Timber
While restaurants may not always be offering up the unique (and often elaborate) poutines they put out for La Poutine Week, we certainly won’t stop you from celebrating in your own way, at your own pace.
Vancouver may not be Canada’s poutine capital, but there are plenty of spots piling on the gravy, cheese curds, and other inventive toppings onto heaping plates (or paper takeout trays) of fries. Go forth and eat poutine.
