For the fifth consecutive year, and the seventh time in eight years, Fairmont Vancouver Airport was named Best Airport Hotel in North America and ranked fourth world's best airport hotel at the 2018 Skytrax World Airport Awards held March 21 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The World Airport Awards, considered the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry, are based on more than 13 million questionnaires completed by airline passengers of hundreds of nationalities at 550 airports over a six-month period.
The Airport Hotel Awards rate overall hotel experience, access from the airport to hotel, friendliness of hotel staff, cleanliness, in-room amenities, fitness and spa facilities, quality of food and restaurant service, and value for money.
"This award truly belongs to our colleagues who have created an extraordinary service culture in the hotel," Patrick Gosselin, general manager of Fairmont Vancouver Airport, said in a press release. "We are thrilled to be recognized for such a prestigious honour."
In the past year, the hotel has introduced wellness rooms with yoga mats, personal diffusers and essential oils, the Little Flyer Club for children, Fit on the Fly, which offers day pass rates for access to the full service gym and pool — and includes Reebok workout gear, and a six-passenger golf cart to shuttle guests from the hotel to airline check-ins.
In the spring, a re-designed Fairmont Gold floor will be unveiled with an exclusive lounge, concierge, private check-in and luxurious accommodation. Guests who stay in a deluxe or Fairmont Gold guestroom also receive complimentary access to any of the Vancouver International Airport's post-security Plaza Premium Lounges located in the Domestic, U.S., and International terminals.
Located in the airport and just 90 steps from the U.S. departures level, guestrooms are fully soundproof with floor-to-ceiling views of the airport runways, ocean and mountains. The "Quiet Zone" has day use rooms for travellers on layovers and guests can check in and print their boarding pass in the hotel lobby.
Runway vistas along with award-winning Pacific Northwest cuisine are featured in Globe@YVR restaurant and Jetside Bar, and the hotel also boasts a full service day spa with specialty jet lag recovery treatments, health club with indoor mechanized lap pool. The hotel also includes state-of-the-art meeting facilities with more than 8,800 square-feet of space and round-the-clock room service.
