Gun shots fired on same day as Hastings Street stabbing death

A man was sent to hospital after he was shot inside the Regent Hotel on March 14

A man is in hospital with serious wounds after he was shot this afternoon inside the Regent Hotel.

Police investigated reports of multiple shots fired inside the hotel at 160 East Hastings St. just before 2:30 p.m. March 14.

The hotel is located across the street on the same city block from the site of a morning altercation earlier the same day that sent a man to hospital with stab wounds. The 19-year-old died in hospital as the city's seventh homicide of the year.

Police arrived around 3 a.m. March 14 to find the man, who is not a resident of Vancouver, outside 139 East Hastings St.

With the gun violence inside the Regent, it is the second time this year a man has been shot inside a Downtown Eastside residence.

In January, Vancouver recorded its first homicide of the year when Joseph Billy Bustinksi was shot and killed on the second floor of the Savoy Hotel.
