It just takes one spark to ignite a brush fire

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services demonstrate how easily local brush fires can start and spread

With wildfires burning across the province and an increase in local brush fires due to warm, dry weather, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services hosted an event July 19 for media to see first-hand how quickly brush fires can start and spread. Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services performed a controlled demonstration at its Disaster Training Site on Glen Drive using dry vegetation, much like is found on city and private property throughout Vancouver, and a discarded cigarette to help educate audiences about the extreme hazard posed by carless disposal of smoking material.
