Vancouver’s park board is planning to build a new community centre in Marpole and it is looking for feedback from residents.
The centre has been serving the South Vancouver neighbourhood for more than 65 years. However, the current building at 59th Avenue and Oak Street is no longer able to meet the needs of the growing population in the area.
The board, in partnership with the Marpole Community Centre Association, is looking for feedback to help determine the kinds of activities that should be offered at a new facility, as well as a preferred location — whether at the existing site or another spot in the neighbourhood.
Residents can have their say in an online survey, which is available at vancouver.ca/marpole-renewal until Jan. 31. An open house is set for Jan. 17 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Church Hall and a pop-up event is scheduled for Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Marpole Oakridge Community Centre. Another open house is planned for April but the date, time and location have yet to be determined.
