The Shangri-La, arguably Vancouver’s ritziest hotel, is the best hotel in Canada.
That is, according to the readers of Travel + Leisure. Voters ranked the Shangri-La number one in Canada as part of the US-based travel magazine’s 2014 World’s Best Awards.
This is the third time the hotel has been included in the World's Best Awards, and the first time it has ranked number one on the list of Top City Hotels in Canada. It also ranked number 74 in the world.
Vancouver’s Rosewood Hotel Georgia came in second for city hotels, followed by the Ritz Carlton in Toronto.
There were two categories for Canadian hotels: one for Top City Hotel and one for Top Resorts, which went to the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino.
Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts owns or manages more than 80 hotels around the world.
