Do you live with a horrible roommate? Or, have your attempts to find a suitable roommate led to utter and complete desperation?
Speed Roomies may have the solution to your cohabitation dilemma.
They are offering Vancouver’s first speed roommate meeting event, and it takes place this Tuesday, November 27 at 12 Kings Pub. The fun event allows you to meet possible roommate matches from neighbourhoods across Vancouver. They also claim that, “Equal numbers of people who are looking for a room (Room Seekers) to people that have a room (Room Havers)” will be present.
As a result, you’ll have a much higher chance of meeting someone that you’re compatible with based on the sheer volume of people that you encounter. Moreover, you won’t have to scroll through endless Craigslist ads and Facebook groups while you do it.
The event doesn't follow a traditional "speed dating" format. Instead, it works like this: People buy a $10 ticket to the event and when they rock up to the venue they are assigned one of two stickers:
Purple: Room Seeker (If you are looking for a room). On the badge you will be able to write down your monthly budget, the areas you want to live and preferences such as pets, smoking and 420 friendly.
Blue: Room Haver (If you have a room(s) either as a current roommate or landlord) - On the badge you will be able to write down the area the room is in, cost of rent and preferences you would like your future roommate to have.
And then the mingling begins. Room seekers and room havers are encouraged to chat to as many people as possible in the hope that they will bump into their perfect roommate match.
The event provides a fun environment that includes pool, foosball, darts, and, of course, plenty of delicious food and drink.
