The highest point in Vancouver stands slightly more than 150 metres above sea level and now that point in Queen Elizabeth Park has been crowned with a flag pole. It's just in time to recognize something else that is 150.
Today marked National Flag Day and, on top of that milestone, Canada recognizes 150 years since Confederation. Don’t put those red mittens back in the drawer quite yet, Vancouver.
To commemorate these anniversaries, the Vancouver park board installed a 60-foot flag pole outside the Bloedel Conservatory and raised a Canadian flag higher than one has ever flown over the city.
The conservatory houses a tropical garden under a glass dome, with more than 200 free-flying birds and hundreds of exotic plants. The glass dome opened in 1969.
