To stop your head from spinning with so much to see and do at The Fair at PNE this summer, here is a summary of the top five attractions at The Fair from Saturday Aug. 16 to Sept.1. (Note it's closed Aug. 18 and Aug. 25.)
- Games of Thrones: The Exhibition: The opening day of the exhibition on Aug. 16 may just be your best chance to get up close and personal with an actor from the show. Sibel Kekilli, who plays Shae, will be interviewed at the Chevrolet Performance Stage at 3 p.m. The exhibit promises to transport fans to the world of Westeros featuring key places, characters and relationships from season 3. The show will display a collection of 100 “artifacts” from pivotal scenes in seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4, including original costumes, props, weapons, crowns and more. The exhibition runs daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Garden auditorium. Guests 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- Summer Night Concerts: This old favourite at the PNE is back with a rockin' rollout of performers including LeAnn Rimes, Gavin DeGraw, Trooper, Glass Tiger, Three Days Grace and Chilliwack. If that doesn't impress, sing along with Air Supply, Joan Jett, The Blackhearts, and many more. Concerts are free with admission and seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Starting at $20, fans can opt to reserve seats online or on site. Concerts play outdoors nightly at 8 p.m. at the PNE Amphitheatre.
- YVR Fly Dome: A 360 Travel Experience - The dome is a universe intended to transport you to some of the most breathtaking places on Earth. Using 360 degree motion capture technology similar to those used Google street view, the videos will display scenes from Machu Picchu, New York City, the Pyramids of Giza, and many more on a massive screen nearly 60 metres in circumference. This new attraction runs daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. near Playland.
- Mystic India: Partake in Bollywood's energetic and colourful performances based on ancient India's transition to modernity in one of this year's new shows. The show will feature musicians, dancers and acrobats combining Indian and modern techniques influenced by the streets of Mumbai and New York. Expect to travel through Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Mystic India runs from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Pacific Coliseum.
- Fourth Annual Vancouver Rib Festival Competition:The Fair is once again hosting the popular competition featuring barbecue pit masters from across Canada. Four national teams will showcase some of their award-winning barbecue ribs, brisket and pulled pork. Be sure to vote for your favourite by Aug. 28 at 1 p.m.
