UBC wrestling camp gets real with coaching from commonwealth champion, Olympian

Promising real throws, real takedowns and real reversals, the fourth annual UBC wrestling summer clinic begins next week for novice and experienced high school athletes.

Open to boys and girls aged 12 to 18, the fourth annual camp has a proud record of involving some of the sports most celebrated Canadian wrestlers, including Daniel Igali and Guivi Sissaouri.

This year, Arjan Bhullar, the five-time senior national champion, 2009 Canadian wrestler of the year and last years Commonwealth Games Champion, will hold sessions and run drills. Bhullar, a Simon Fraser University alum, grew up in Richmond.

Commonwealth Games champion and 1992 Olympian, Greg Edgelow, will be there.

Garfield Gairy of the Khalsa Wrestling Club and Sucha Mann with the Miri Piri Wrestling Club will also be on hand.

Frank Mensah of Raw Academy Vancouver will bring added insight to mat wrestling with his knowledge of mixed martial arts.

The week-long camp begins Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 and continues daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kitsilano ice rink (2690 Larch St.) Registration is open and costs $259.
