In the most anticipated game of the Canada Soccer Western Men's Masters round-robin tournament, Vancouver’s Westside FC tied the Calgary Callies 1-1 at Empire Field.

Despite the draw, the Vancouver side narrowly edged the Alberta visitors in the standings and hoisted their second masters title since 2012, when the men won in Edmonton.

In four games, Westside allowed only one goal and scored 12 points to amass seven tournament points and a positive rating of 11. The Callies also finished with seven points but scored one less goal than Vancouver and allowed two.

The win was the club’s fourth national men’s championship since the 1990s. Seven players on this championship team won the open (known as “senior”) men’s national championship in 1993 and 1996.
