AC/DC, Audioslave tribute acts go 'all night long' in Port Moody

PWRUP brings AC/DC hits to Port Moody on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024. Civilian, an Audioslave tribute act, opens the show at the Inlet Theatre. Tickets are now on sale.

A tribute band that plays Port Moody next month is having a hard time keeping its videos online.

Albert Gilmer, who founded the production company The Classic Rock Experience this year, said he’s been trying to post footage of the group PWRUP performing AC/DC songs to promote their upcoming show and sell tickets.

But YouTube and other social media platforms are yanking them off and citing copyright infringement.

It’s nothing new, said Colin Wielenga — aka Angus Young — who started PWRUP in 2019.

“We’ve been fighting the ban for years,” Wielenga told the Tri-City News on Wednesday, Oct. 23. “It’s because we sound so much like them.”

Made up of Wielenga, John Kairis (vocals), Tom Roche (bass), Tim Wielenga (rhythm guitar) and Ray A (drums), PWRUP offers an authentic tribute to AC/DC’s “hey days” in the 1970s and 80s, Colin Wielenga said.

For the past five years, they’ve mounted concerts around Canada and the United States and performed such hits as:

  • “You Shook Me All Night Long”
  • “Hells Bells”
  • “Highway to Hell”
  • “Money Talks”
  • “Back In Black”

“We give 110 per cent to whatever we’re doing, wherever we are,” Wielenga said. “The Port Moody show will be nice because it’s local and in our backyard.”

The Inlet Theatre date on Saturday, Nov. 16 will be the first time PWRUP has played in Port Moody.

And it will be the first time the band has headlined for Civilian, an Audioslave tribute act that opens the Port Moody gig and features the musical talents of Johnny Peralta, Derek Lundblad, Alex Stronach and Victor Escoto.

Gilbert said The Classic Rock Experience launched after his sold-out Gunz N’ Fn’ Rosez tribute show in Port Moody in May; he is the lead singer, Axl Rose.

Tickets starting at $43 for the all-ages show at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.) are now for sale. Rewind Brewing is a sponsor.
