If springtime brings in tulips, then summer calls for sunflowers.
Vancouver summers are filled with festivals and parties, from celebrating the city's arts and murals to throwing street parties just for the fun of it. It's no different when it comes to B.C.'s beautiful florals.
The Chilliwack Sunflower Festival is back in bloom starting August 10, blossoming 50 varieties of sunflowers alongside over 50 varieties of dahlias, eight varieties of gladiolas, and a large bed of zinnias and cosmos flowers.
The three display gardens, of which between five and eight acres will be in full bloom at all times, are accompanied by props for memorable photos, including a windmill, three vintage bicycles, a 1950s convertible, a horse carriage, swing sets, a three-wheeled Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 1965 Airstream trailer (the last prop is new).
Those wanting to take home a piece of the sunflower festival can collect their own bouquet at the U-pick sunflower garden or pick up fresh-cut and potted sunflowers (plus seeds and bulbs) at the field-side store. Fresh Chilliwack corn and local garlic will also be up for grabs.
Lawn games, souvenirs, ice cream and a food truck will also be at the festival.
