Coldplay had a special opening act for their only Canadian show on their world tour.
The popular band announced a series of West Coast dates for its "Music of the Spheres" world tour earlier this year, with concerts at BC Place on Sept. 22 and 23.
Earlier this month, Coldplay announced that it will be selling a limited amount of discounted tickets for $20. The cheap tickets are called Infinity Tickets and are available for every concert on their tour. Sadly many Vancouver fans were left frustrated and disappointed after the ultra-cheap Infinity Tickets went on sale.
Coldplay opened their Friday (Sept. 22) evening show with a land acknowledgement by youth representatives of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. It was the first time that the three Nations have taken the stage to welcome a band and open a concert at BC Place.
The Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations will take the stage again tonight (Sept. 23) for Coldplay's second Vancouver concert, which has an expected attendance of over 40,000 people (same as Friday's crowd).
This milestone comes a week ahead of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30.
