An international festival dedicated to art in motion will show pieces around Vancouver including the SkyTrain system for one day this month.
The Design in Motion Festival (DEMO) is based in the Netherlands but holds events around the world. This year Vancouver is participating; it's the only Canadian city and joins L.A. as the only North American cities in the event, which will take place on Jan. 30, 2025.
The art shown as part of DEMO is often abstract designs and patterns animated to have motion. They're shown on screens or projected onto surfaces in public areas.
In Vancouver, the public will be able to catch pieces for free around the downtown area.
Locations to see DEMO work are:
- 745 Thurlow St.
- 666 Burrard St. (Park Place)
- 1601 Bayshore Dr. (Westin Bayshore)
- 1090 West Pender St. (B6)
- Downtown SkyTrain station screens
The screens will feature the work of local artists like Stacie Ant, Carmilla Sumantry, Saida Saetgar, and Ben Z Cooper. In Vancouver DEMO is working with local artist group Chroma Link Collective.
"This free 24-hour event is your chance to experience world-class motion design right here in Vancouver," states Chroma Link on social media.
Chroma Link is also organizing a digital artist mixer as part of the event, though no details have been released yet.
