One of Vancouver's enduring summer traditions (albeit borrowed from Paris) is Le Dîner en Blanc, an elegant outdoor soiree with a dress code and lots of intrigue.
Held at a secret location disclosed to ticket-holders just before the posh picnic gets underway, Le Dîner en Blanc will take place on Thursday, August 15 this year.
Previous locations have included Van Dusen Gardens, George Wainborn Park in Yaletown, and in 2017 the event was so large it took over two locations, Harbour Green Park and Devonian Park in Coal Harbour.
"This year’s top-secret location is more epic than ever," promises the organizer in a media release.
Le Dîner en Blanc began in Paris over 30 years ago as a special pop-up picnic and has since been carried out year after year in cities around the globe.
The event's central motif is elegance, signalled through the use of the colour white. Guests must adhere to a strict all-white dress code, and have white table ware, chairs, and accessories.
A new organizer is behind the scenes of Diner, which means a few changes, including one major one, which many guests may appreciate. In 2023, longtime stewards Social Concierge passed the torch to Aly Armstrong Events and the two organizers co-produced the event with the plan for Aly Armstrong to fully take over in 2024.
This year, guests will be able to reserve tables and chairs online from Le Dîner en Blanc’s e-store for onsite pickup at the event, rather than everyone having to bring their own.
Additionally, while booking tickets, guests can pre-purchase their choice of wine or champagne, courtesy of sponsors Villa Maria and Taittinger.
Gourmet picnic meal boxes are also available for pre-purchase to pick up at the event. Guests can also opt to pack their own picnic.
