Elise Boulanger brings her magical music to Coquitlam

Elise Boulanger is one-half of an indie-folk music show at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam on Feb. 22, 2025. She plays before The Shorties, a Capilano University ensemble.

A Chamber-pop musician who splits her time between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island hopes to bring an “intimate and thoughtful show” when she performs in Coquitlam next week.

Elise Boulanger, who grew up in Nanaimo, is one-half of an indie-folk music performance at the Evergreen Cultural Centre on Feb. 22 that's part of the facility's Rehearsal Hall Sessions. She will play at 8 p.m., before The Shorties.

Trained in Classical voice at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Boulanger writes compositions with a modern song structure and cinematic feel.

Among her credits is the theme song to Spirit Seekers, a seven-part docuseries via Telus’ StoryHive about ghosts on Vancouver Island. She was asked to pen the opening music by the director Paula DeMontigny, a medium whom Boulanger met while working at Vancouver Island University.

In Coquitlam, Boulanger is best known for her pre-show at an Evergreen’s Music on the Grill concert in 2023 as well as her open air performances.

Today, Feb. 11, she told the Tri-City News she’s excited to return to the Pinetree Way venue “to bring people into a calming, comforting space.”

Boulanger said she’ll invite the audience to sing along and clap to the rhythms while also sharing stories about the origins of her songs: from her grandparents’ love story during the Second World War to historical tales about the nation.

“I want to feel like we’re all together in this experience," she said.

Meanwhile, the second half of the indie–folk night at Evergreen will feature The Shorties, a modern folk trio that met while studying jazz at Capilano University in North Vancouver.

For tickets at $25/$16 to the Rehearsal Hall performance on Saturday, Feb. 22, visit the Evergreen website or call the box office at 604-927-6555. The facility’s rehearsal hall is located behind the theatre.
