One of the city's largest Christmas light displays will return to downtown Vancouver with a bang.
The Lights of Hope will be lit on Wednesday, Nov. 27 during a free and family-friendly event in the evening.
Now in its 24th year, the annual fundraiser helps support the St. Paul's Foundation at St. Paul's Hospital on Burrard Street.
This year, 150 volunteers have put in time building the display; they started the work back on Oct. 19. Now, more than a month later, 270 stars and thousands of lights have been set up, and they're ready to shine.
The lighting will take place Wednesday, during an event running from 6 to 8 p.m. Along with the lighting, there will be fireworks, free hot chocolate, choir performances, photos with Santa, and more. The fireworks should happen at 6:30 p.m., according to the event website.
The lights will be illuminated for all to see and enjoy through the new year.
The hope is to raise $3.7 this year. In 2023, the display raised $3.6 million from over 2,850 donors.
"At the darkest time of year, patients and frontline health care workers at St. Paul’s Hospital need hope more than ever," say organizers. "Lights of Hope shines with all of the joy and wonder of the holiday season."
