Four things to do in Richmond this weekend

Youth with the Richmond 28th Scout Group helped clean up a community garden at Paulik Park.

From removing weeds to a free short film in Richmond, there's something for everyone this weekend.

1. Invasive weeds removal

Join the Richmond Garden Club to identify and remove invasive weeds in Paulik Park. Tools, gloves and guidance will be provided.

Volunteers are reminded to wear waterproof shoes and meet at the picnic tables off of Heather Street for the event.

Date: Saturday, March 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: Paulik Gardens Neighbourhood Park, 7620 Heather St.

2. Seeds swap with Urban Bounty

Urban Bounty is hosting its first free Seedy Saturday since 2019.

Participants can bring seeds packed and labelled to swap with other participants and purchase quality seeds with heritage and heirloom varieties from vendors.

There will be workshops and educational demonstrations as well as opportunities to meet and connect with other gardeners and experts.

No fee or registration is required. All money raised goes towards Urban Bounty's Seed Security program.

3. Short film on caregivers of MAiD

A free community event titled Voices of Caregivers: Exploring MAiD through stories and film is being held this weekend. The event features the showing of the 10-minute short film "The Last Flight" which premiered at the 2024 Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon and 2024 Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

The event will also feature stories from caregivers of those who have chosen medically assisted in dying (MAiD) and offers the community the opportunity to gain a deeper insight by hearing firsthand from people with lived experience.

4. RBC Training Grounds

The RBC Training Ground is a free national talent identification and athlete funding program for young athletes ages 14 to 25.

This event gives athletes a chance to test their speed, power, strength and endurance in front of official sport partners to see if they are suited for an Olympic sport.

To date, 21 RBC Training Ground alumni have reached their Team Canada dreams by becoming Olympians, with 12 of these 21 athletes bringing home 14 Olympic medals from three Olympic Games.
