Dating in Vancouver is already a challenge, and Valentine's Day can come as an unwelcome reminder.
While lovebirds are busy planning nice dinners, shopping for the perfect gift, or deciding on a budget-friendly date idea, those without a partner may have different or no plans.
Though the stereotype of eating ice cream on the couch and binge-watching Netflix shows may ring true for some, single folks can still partake in the romantic holiday by celebrating loved ones like friends and family instead.
Whether it's hosting a "Palentine's Day" party, having lunch with family, or treating yourself to a solo date, there's an abundance of things to do for single people on Valentine's Day.
Here are a few activities to do with friends or solo:
- Go to a puppy yoga class.
- Write handwritten notes to family and friends. These stationary stores have the most aesthetic supplies.
- See a movie! Valentine's Day falls on the cheapest day of the week for a movie night.
- Sign up for a trauma-informed fitness class
- Treat yourself to a spa.
- Or splurge a locally-made gift, like hand cream, loungewear, or upcycled jewellery.
- If your love language is quality time, buy a ticket to an upcoming concert and treat yourself to a good time.
- Take yourself out on a date to your favourite restaurant.
- Go roller skating at Rollerland or ice skating at the Robson Square ice rink.
- Spend some time exploring the Bloedel Conservatory, Vancouver Art Gallery, or a museum you've always wanted to go to.
- Gather round your pals and plan a cheap, fun night out.
- Go on a self-guided tour of Vancouver's hidden gems.
- Get creative and try a new hobby or workshop.
- Thrift yourself a new outfit.
Of course, don't forget to splurge on discounted chocolate in celebration of Singles Awareness Day on Feb. 15.
