Indigenous history is now on dazzling display at the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art. The stunning works, from contemporary artist Luke Parnell, mark his debut with the downtown Vancouver gallery.
The solo exhibition is an exploration of the relationship between Northwest Coast Indigenous oral histories, conceptual art, and traditional formline design. Raised in northern B.C., Parnell earned his Master of Applied Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and his work has been exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada.
The attraction includes two new large pieces, eight paintings, plus a short film and accompanying totem pole. Parnell's work can be viewed at the Bill Reid Gallery from now until May 9.
