The Day of the Dog in downtown Vancouver's Yaletown neighbourhood will see corgi races, a dog pool and pie eating contests.

This weekend, Yaletown will be filled with furry friends.

The travelling Day of the Dog event, dubbed "North America's Largest Pet Festival" is coming to Vancouver, filling the historic neighbourhood with all sorts of dog-friendly activities.

Among the highlights for canines will be the 100-foot-long pool party (for dogs), a pie eating contest  (also for dogs) and plenty of races (again, this is just for dogs). Human fans are encouraged, though.

Some of the races are specifically for breeds like the running of the bulls (for French bulldogs) and corgi races.

There'll be plenty of photo opportunities, too, with a superhero photo booth and canine cabanas with "paw-parazzi."

Competitions will also be taking place for the best snaggle tooth, and a measuring station is being set up to declare the "biggest, smallest, longest, shortest and hairiest wieners in Vancouver!" according to an Instagram post.

The festival will take over Mainland Street, where booths, the pool party and races will run down from Nelson Street to Davies Street. A market area is taking over Bill Curtis Square.

Day of the Dog will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 25. It's free to attend and very, very pet-friendly.
