Red Bull is bringing their breakdancers to Vancouver this spring for a weekend of competition and classes.
"This camp will give Canadians the rare opportunity to train with some of the discipline’s top names, in addition to seeing some of the country’s leading talent compete in the National Final competition," says Red Bull in a press release.
Red Bull's BC One is one of the top break-dancing events in the world, pitting two dancers directly against each other in a one-on-one battle. This event will be the Canadian finals, with winners going on to the finals in Paris, France.
There's two qualifying events for the finals. One in Toronto later this month and one in Vancouver right before the finals.
"The top four b-boys and top b-girls from these events will compete against wildcard competitors for the opportunity to represent Canada at the World Finals in Paris," states Red Bull, noting that break-dancing is going to enter the Olympics in Paris in 2024.
Metro Vancouver is already well represented in the breakdancing world with Red Bull's Phil Wizard hailing from the city itself, while last year Surrey's Emma Misak made it to the world finals.
Along with the competition, there will be a camp with workshops for those trying to make it to the next level. A schedule is still being sorted out.
The competitions will take place at SFU's Goldcorp Centre For The Arts at 149 West Hastings St. The qualifying event on May 12 is at 7 p.m. It's free to attend.
The national final is May 13 at 7 p.m., also at the SFU facility. Tickets are $20.
