New video game has players racing around a dystopian Vancouver

Science World, Vancouver House, Gastown sights and more pop up in the game.

Tails Noir, the post-noir roleplaying detective adventure video game based in a retro-futuristic Vancouver filled with anthropomorphic characters, is getting a spin-off of sorts.

A new speedrunning game will launch mid-September, with people driving cars around a dystopian, flooded, and partially destroyed Vancouver.

"Tails Noir: Rebel Rush combines fast-paced gameplay with stunning depictions of iconic Vancouver landmarks, including Gastown, Stanley Park, and the Waterfront district," reads a press release about the game. "Players will dash, jump, and bounce off well-known landmarks."

The game also features Vancouver House (the residential tower that looks like it might fall over), Hotel Vancouver, Science World, and more, though the landmarks aren't necessarily located on a map of Vancouver. The lamps might also look familiar to people who spend a lot of time in Gastown.

"Our team has meticulously crafted a game that celebrates Vancouver's spirit," reads part of the press release.

The game even includes the Granville Street Bridge chandelier.

"Did you know that there is a chandelier in Vancouver that costs $4.8 MILLION dollars? And apparently it’s a piece of “public art” that just spins slowly in purple lights? Imagine how much better the world could have been if that money had been put towards – Ah, just break it already!" reads the game's site.

It's not the first time Vancouver landmarks have shown up in a video game; there's a MarioKart course filled with sites and sights from Vancouver, and several other games use Vancouver in different ways.

Tails Noir: Rebel Rush will be released on Steam on Sept. 16.
