Who's your favorite artist(s) in the Peak Performance Project and why?
You know, I wish I could tell you, but I, myself, would have to spend at least one good day contemplating this thought. Every one has affected me in some way, and I completely respect and admire each and every band/artist. They are all amazing and immensely talented.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from Boot Camp?
The most valuable thing I took away from Boot Camp was to never doubt myself, and always do what I know best; music. I've always sang, and really started getting interested in music when I was seven, and from the beginning, there were always people telling me I wouldn't make it. It stung as a kid, but it never stopped me. Going to school and having to deal with the idiots who always tried to put me down was a struggle, but I got past it. Going into singing competitions that looked seemingly innocent but turned out to be terribly degrading and political was terrifying, but I surpassed those ridiculous moments. Sure, those were all difficult to endure, but as I was at the Peak Boot Camp, there were so many talented people around that, if anything, that would have the time to be the most insecure. But, as it was my turn to go up on stage, I realized the true reason why I am in music; because it's in my blood. I am a writer, a musician, a vocalist, an interpreter of life experiences, a walking metaphor. And, I wasn't the only one to begin understanding the deeper meaning to my feelings towards music while I was at camp. It was a miracle to be a part of. I am so thankful.
What is one thing you wish you brought to Boot Camp, but didn’t?
The one thing I wish I brought to the Boot Camp would probably be confidence. Seeing I was one of the youngest people there, I felt intimidated. And, going to the camp, made my nerves even worse. It was a little difficult at first, as I assumed a lot of the people there wouldn't treat me as an equal because of my age, or look down on me because in their eyes, I just started and they felt they deserved to be there more. I know, ridiculous. And, fortunately, I was very wrong. Once I began understanding that, I had an amazing time. I just wish I hadn't stressed out so much with my nonsense worrying in the first place.
What’s your favorite venue to play at in BC?
I'm pretty new to the music scene (well, compared to most of the artists), and although I have done a fair amount of shows in my short years of living so far, I haven't done much shows on the mainland. I've got to say, though, that performing on stage at the boot camp was one of the most incredible experiences for me.
Where is your favorite hangout in Vancouver?
I've never lived in Vancouver before, but I am always constantly commuting over there from the island. I always take a walk downtown, and I'm not going to lie, one of my favorite places I always end up going to is Chapters. As nerdy as that may seem, it's just so intriguing. Whenever Christmas, or any other festivity comes around, it's decked out to the max. And it always inspires me to pick up a good book and gets me creative.
If you win the grand prize, what are you going to put the money towards?
Oh wow, if I win the grand prize, I have my work cut out for me! But seriously, it will give me the capability to truly start my career. I'll be able to do the things I couldn't possibly do beforehand, because of money struggles. It would forever change my life. And, there are so many deserving bands/artists involved with the project; I wish everyone could be given the grand prize.
