The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year, 5.29 million dollar contest open to all musicians in British Columbia. The project was created by Vancouver's very own 100.5 The PEAK and Music BC to develop BC based emerging artists. |
Over the coming weeks we'll be introducing you to all of this year's participating artists with quick interviews about the project, the other artists, and a little bit of Vancouver! Vote now for your favourite top 19 at www.peakperformanceproject.com.
Second up is Garrett Kato, a singer/songwriter hailing from Poco. He’ll be playing The Cellar on October 22nd, and the only way to get into the showcase is by listening to 100.5 The Peak FM to win tickets! Limited tickets will also be released at the door.
Who's your favorite artist(s) in the Peak Performance Project and why?
Man I love so many of the artists at the PPP. I would say all of them honestly. But I'd have to go with Bend Sinister, Tea', We Are The City, and Bodhi Jones.I really liked Tea's style and sound the more I listen to it, I think it was the effortless style of her voice that sold me. Bodhi, Bend Sinister and We are the City were my room mates at the camp and turned out to be just great guys and even better bands and song writers.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from Boot Camp?
This sounds really cheesy, but all the people I met from the facility, to the bands. I can't think of any situation where 80 plus people can live together and not have any problems with each other what so ever. When we all get together it's a really great bond that we all have for each other and you can't really put a price on that.
What is one thing you wish you brought to Boot Camp, but didn’t?
I wish I brought my dog Dallas.
What’s your favorite venue to play at in BC?
This changes for me all the time, but! Right now I'd have to say The Media Club.
Where is your favorite hangout in Vancouver?
I love checkin out shows at The Orpheum Theatre, it sounds so good in there.
