I never write music stuff because I'm rarely up past 11, but when I heard Public Enemy was coming last week, I couldn't say no.
I didn't get my expectations up too high because I remember the last couple times they've come, it's been without Flavor who could never get across the border. This time around though he was in full effect. He had perfect balance of coherence and being bugged, I can't think of seeing PE without him. He even got behind the drum kit.
The S1W's might have lost a step or two, but I like the idea that I wasn't the only guy in the crowd who spent most of the night standing perfectly still and with his arms crossed. You'd think that now that there's a black president, Chuck wouldn't be Chuck. No more 40 acres and mule? Puppies and rainbows? Naw....he was pissed. It was like shooting fish in a barrel, convincing a room full of Canadians that America is still messed up.
No Griff was present though, but Keith Shocklee was there warming up the crowd and they played with a full band which brought their stage presence to a whole new level. They ripped through over a two hour set leaving me completely satisfied, the only regret I had was the double cheese burger I ate on the way home. I swear, you keep me up past midnight, it's like I turn into Hugh Grant, and Macdonald's is Divine Brown.....I've done a bad thing...a very bad thing....
