You can take a stroll this weekend through the səmiq̓ʷəʔelə/Riverview Lands in Coquitlam to learn about its world-class arboretum.
The Riverview Horticultural Centre Society (RHCS) will host its first tree tour of the year on Sunday (May 7) for the public to get up close with more than 1,600 catalogued trees on site.
Led by a certified arborist, the free, family-friendly guided walk will run about two hours from 1 to 3 p.m.
To take part, meet in the upper parking lot of the Henry Esson Young (HEY) Building on the campus (2601 Lougheed Hwy.). No registration is required.
In 2021, BC Housing and the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation renamed the century-old grounds to səmiq̓ʷəʔelə (pronounced Suh-mEE-kwuh EL-uh) — translated from the band's traditional hən̓q̓əmin̓əm language as "Place of the Great Blue Heron."
