From historic sites to self-guided Christmas light tours Richmond’s Steveston Village could be the ideal holiday walk for photographers and history buffs alike.
The historic fishing village is home to a host of all sorts of Christmas programming this year, all of which can be done in a safe, socially distant manner. Activities range from touring around decorated heritage sites, checking out extravagantly detailed window displays as well as two virtual events that can be enjoyed at home.
Wander among the Christmas lights
Steveston Village’s self-guided Light Up the Village tour brings adventurers over to the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, at which several heritage buildings are lit up with a myriad of lights, as are The Steveston Museum and Steveston Tram.
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site will be hosting its sparkling Festival of Trees, where you can explore a forest decorated by local organizations.
Which is the prettiest of them all?
This year, close to 40 Steveston businesses will compete for the title of ‘Best Holiday Window Display’ with their twinkling, window displays. You can even play a part in determining the winner by voting for your favourite display by voting on Tourism Richmond’s Facebook page.
Virtual events
Hosted virtually by the Steveston Museum is ‘Songs in the Snow’ a Christmas concert which can be watched on December 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. The music can be listened to while drinking something hot provided by the Steveston Historical Society.
The drink mix packages can be picked up from the Steveston Museum on the Thursday before the event between 3 to 5 p.m., or the Saturday of the event from noon to 2 p.m. If you are not able to attend you can purchase a shipping add-on to get your craft packages sent to your door.
