A few months ago we posted about a local Kickstarter campaign titled Rodney DeCroo + Templeton Secondary Make A Music Video. We kind of fell in love with the idea of a seasoned recording artist working with a group of high schoolers to make his next video and today we’re happy to announce that the campaign was successfully funded and the video is ready to be enjoyed!
On Saturday, September 24th at 8:00pm, The Cultch will host a FREE screening of the completed music video alongside a Q+A with the students involved in the project and a very special performance by Rodney Decroo and his band, The Wise Blood.
For those of you who don’t know, Rodney Decroo is a wildly talented folk-singer and playwright based signed to Vancouver’s Tonic Records. When he was approached by Templeton High School's drama teacher Jim Crescenzo about collaborating with his students, he become instantly intrigued at the thought of a group of young students interpreting his song, ‘Stupid Boy in an Ugly Town,’ which recounts his less-than-idyllic upbringing in Pittsburgh almost 35 years ago.
Decroo invited filmmaker Flick Harrison and photographer/videographer/writer Rebecca Blissett into the mix and under their guidance, the students scouted locations, created costumes, directed, filmed and acted in the video and wrote nearly the entire script on their own.
The crowdfunding campaign was met with incredible generosity (good job Vancouver), which allowed the students and Rodney to make something truly special. Don’t miss the official premiere Rodney Decroo and Templeton Secondary’s video for ‘Stupid Boy in an Ugly Town,’ happening for FREE at the Cultch on September 24th.
