Carson Ting was originally born and raised in Toronto, but has called Vancouver home for the last 6 years. He loves it here more than any other person from Toronto ever has. After graduating with a Bachelors in Design from OCAD, Carson entered the world of advertising as an art director and has since developed award-winning campaigns for everything from cars, to TV's, to basketball shoes, to burgers (even though he doesn't eat meat). He currently holds the title of Creative Director and illustrator at Chairman Ting Industries, an experimental creative studio he co-founded with his super fun wife, Denise. Since opening their studio, they have worked for the likes of adidas originals, The Cartoon Network, Microsoft, Kidrobot, IdN magazine, and more. Carson has been named as one of the top 200 illustrators in the world by Luerzer's Archive magazine, and voted as one of the top five most creative people in Canada by Marketing Magazine. He is also really, really nice. In his off time (which he rarely has), he enjoys running, biking, playing with his pet bunny, and laughing loudly at things only he finds funny.

THE PROOF
1. The view from my apartment. This view never gets old. It grounds me and makes all my problems go away, at least temporarily.
2. This is my daily whip. It’s a fixed Masi that I love bombing around in whenever it’s nice out. I try not to drive as much as I can even though I love my car.
3. A night shot I took of Coal Harbour, my beloved neighborbood. I love long walks after dinner with my wife Denise.
4. This is my work desk at home. I love it. It’s the perfect sized desk.
5. Some of my most essentials daily items. My macbook pro, notebook, iPhone and pencil.
6. I hate taking pictures of myself but this is a long exposure selfie I took at night in Hong Kong earlier this year.
7. I’ve taken on quite a few mural projects recently and this is a snap shot of some of my stuff for this year’s Canadian Tourism Commission mural project.
8. I’m an avid runner and because I live right by the sea wall, I do my weekly 10k runs around Stanley Park.
THE QUESTIONS
1. What neighborhood do you live in?
I have been told that I have live in an architect’s sketch because no one ever seems to live here in coal harbour but I love it. It's really quiet yet it's right in the downtown core and right beside Stanley Park which is perfect because I love running the sea wall in the mornings.
2. What do you do and where?
I run my own creative studio with my wife Denise and we currently work out of our apartment. I’ve also been taking on freelance art direction gigs at local ad agencies and in the U.S. I've also had my first taste in vinyl toy design this year through the Dunny 2013 collection with Kidrobot.
3. What are you working on?
That’s a question I get most because I’m almost always working on something new and or I’ll have at least 5 things on my plate at any given time. I’ve been working on a short independent documentary video on creativity for the past year, which has taken us to places like Shanghai, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Boston, Toronto, New York and Montreal. I’m also part of a tech start up with my brother, an illustration for a Visa card, two freelance gigs (one in Vancouver and one in the U.S.) and a personal illustration series for a show next year.

Chairmanting.com. I’m a social media whore so you’ll find my work on Flickr, Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, Vimeo, Youtube, Google+ and Facebook. I try to tag all my work under #ChairmanTing to make everything even more accessible.
5. Who are your role models?
Bruce Lee and my Dad.
6. What keeps you going in this industry?
The people. All the talented and super nice people who I've ever worked with in the business continue to inspire me everyday.
7. If you had a chance to start your career all over again, how would you do it differently?
I would have chosen my battles more wisely and focused my energies on stuff that really mattered. I spent countless hours fighting and working on the smallest and dumbest projects ever.
8. What advice do you wish someone would have given you when you were young?
Working late at the office doesn’t necessarily make you a more creative and or better art director. I spent way too many late nights at the office eating bad take out and working on stupid stuff that got either killed or cancelled in the end.
