Epic Expo opened today at the Vancouver Convention Centre West, and seeing as V.I.A. is a media partner I took the afternoon off today to walk over from our Chinatown office and check it out. Dubbed as "Western Canada's largest lifestyle show for the eco-conscious consumer" the space is absolutely filled with all sorts of sustainable businesses showing off their technologies and wares. Plenty of food and beverages, some car manufacturers, car-sharing companies, clothing brands and toys as well as an ongoing speaker series.
A few things really stuck out for me. The first being this Canada Post electric vehicle on display by Electric Car British Columbia, who is the Western Canadian distributor for Global Electric Motorcars. I didn't manage to speak with anybody at this booth but the thought of Canada Post shifting their fleet to electric vehicles is pretty exciting.
Another cool thing I came across was Graeme Hodson-Walker at Kind Gardens. They sell these Earth Box kits which are great for indoor and outdoor gardening. Kindof like a hybrid of traditional gardening and hydroponics, using a great deal less water and... well... check out their WEB SITE to learn all about it. It's really cool.
Surrounding the exhibition floor are these massive paintings of salmon (I used a Lexus hybrid for size reference here). I like fish and fish habitat preservation. A lot. The underlying theme of this year's Epic Expo is "ocean conservation". I like that. A lot.
Last but certainly not least, the Wilderness Committee which works to preserve natural habitats in British Columbia has a booth. From info on oil tankers in the inlet to THIS brochure on preserving rivers (which I actually just downloaded as a PDF a couple days ago), they've got information on many of their different campaigns that you can get involved in and support to help keep our planet healthy without buying any products at all.
Epic Expo runs Saturday and Sunday at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. You can purchase tickets at the door or save $3 by buying them ONLINE.
