A Juno award-winning band that formed more than three decades ago will make a stop in Port Moody this weekend.
Tom Landa will bring The Paperboys and its wide repertoire of music to the city for the Inlet Theatre Music Series, a program organized by veteran musicians Bill Sample and Darlene Cooper.
Landa, who sings and plays guitar, bouzouki and mandolin, will be joined by the following Paperboys musicians for the show:
- Geoffrey Kelly (flute, tambourine)
- Brad Gillard (vocals, banjo, bass guitar)
- Sam Esecson (drums, percussion)
- Kalissa Landa (vocals, fiddle)
- Kareem Kandi (saxophone)
- Nick LaRiviere (trombone)
- Miguelito Valdes (trumpet, congas, percussion)
- Greg Lyons (trumpet)
Kelly, who joined the ensemble in 1997, is best known for his work with the Vancouver band Spirit of the West.
With 11 albums to its name, The Paperboys blends sounds from the Celtic folk, bluegrass, Mexican, Eastern European, zydeco, soul and country catalogues.
And, over the years, it's won a Juno Award and a West Coast Music Award for best roots recordings; the group has also played on hundreds of stages, including at Coquitlam’s Festival du Bois, a francophone gathering at Mackin Park.
“It goes beyond perseverance and into some kind of connectivity and resonance we have with people," Landa said in a statement about his band’s legacy. "We’ve created a community.”
